THE PROBLEM
Being an emergency physician is tough. Each day presents a new challenge where you are expected to solve any problem that comes through the door of the Emergency Department.
Upwards of 65% of emergency physicians report experiencing burnout during their careers. Approximately 15–17% of emergency physicians, and upwards of 20% of emergency medicine residents, met the diagnostic criteria for PTSD in 2019.
Meanwhile, a recent Medscape poll, states that the top three factors that contribute to physician burnout are the same as they were 5 years ago, pre-COVID: Too many bureaucratic tasks, lack of respect from coworkers, and too many work hours.
Despite the prevalence of burnout and other mental health issues among emergency physicians, most emergency physicians never seek the help they need — instead, they suffer in silence.
THE SOLUTION
Happy is here to help.
Happy is a proactive, non-clinical mental health service collaborating with major health systems, health plans and the Department of Defense to pioneer FRICTIONLESS MENTAL HEALTH — an approach to mental health support that removes every major barrier preventing many people from accessing basic mental health support.
Simply put, instead of waiting for people to reach out for support, Happy reaches out to them.
If there is anything in your work or life you aren’t sharing with others and would like to open up in a completely confidential setting, please text your first name and ACEP to 858-367-3001, and you will hear from a member of Happy’s Support Team right away.
MORE INFORMATION ON HAPPY
Who Does Happy Serve?
Happy focuses on people on the “front lines” and the “back of the lines” – but as Happy’s model gains traction, the company is quickly supporting a universal audience: Active duty Service Members, Veterans, doctors, nurses, therapists, mothers, fathers, scientists, programmers and many more.
Happy’s callers include people who have tried therapy and many people who have not — but who appreciate having completely confidential support delivered to them proactively.
Who Are Happy’s Support Givers?
Happy’s Support Givers are a growing community of extraordinary individuals with backgrounds in healthcare/caregiving – including nurses, social workers and professional caregivers – who are specifically chosen for their exceptional abilities to support front line workers.
What Do Happy’s Support Givers Do?
Happy’s Support Givers listen, comfort, encourage, and above all, care. They have nowhere else to be but deep in conversation. They love connecting with, hearing the stories of, and lifting up other people — in a safe and judgment free space, where callers can open up about the private matters, personal and professional, that they often don’t discuss with others.
